Last night we played a kick ass game: "Once Upon a Time"! You get cards which have elements of a fairy tale on it. Seven cards. You have to tell a story which contains these elements and certain rules apply (no more than 2 cards in one sentence, the cards need to be a significant plot point, the story has to make remotely sense etc.). The person with the longest beard starts (LOL) and as soon as he can't go on (like, stutters, stops making sense, goes blank), he has to take a card and it's the next person's turn.

You can interrupt the storyteller and steal his turn if he uses a word that you have the card of. Then you can take over the story. Or you have extra interruption cards where you can just interrupt when someone uses a thing, event, characteristic etc.

It's really a fun game. That way you create a lot of silly stories. The person who uses up all his cards first wins. However, there's another thing to consider: the "Happy End" card. You have to take one and it's really tough to fit those in. Usually they don't make much sense with the way the story was flowing already and you must finish off with it anyhow. Like my mom had "And the orc returned to his cave and everybody was happy." How can you fit that in? LOL

I created a beautiful story about a river who wanted to see the sea. It was my dad's fault! XD He started with the river and then nobody knew how to continue with that, with the river being the main character! But I had it all figured out. Had to take a detour though because someone brought in an evil wizard... *g* I lost my turn once and someone played an evil wizard in his castle. But that was okay. I could fit him in easily! I'm a professional! *giggles*

Well, as you can see, this game was mighty fun!

Right now I'm really tired... didn't sleep too much. There was a bunch of Turks downstairs who made a hell of a lot of noise last night. Music... very loud... Made my granny walk downstairs to complain. In here underwear. It was very embarrassing, but I had to come along to make sure she doesn't get into troubles. But that's fine. Apparently I was snoring last night ^_^;;;;...

Tomorrow we're going to Holland! Yay! That's the good thing about being so close to the border. And now I know at least that "groente" has nothing to do with duck! ^_^;;; *giggles*

Hmmmm... having very nice thoughts right now... *snuggles Tom*

That sounds like a really neat game. Is it something you can buy at a toy store/game store?

I'd love to read your story about the river wanting to meet the sea. Thats really pretty sounding. If you ever write it up, please let me read it? ^^

It is a very neat game and yes, you can buy it in the stores, but it's not in English, so you'd probably have to write the translations on the cards... ^_^;;

And I'm planning on write down the story pretty soon, so stay tuned ^_~.

Aaah, is it a German-language game, or some other language?
It sounds quite lovely. It would figure such a game wouldn't exist in English!

Well, all the same, I look forward to the story! I hope you write it in English, or at least offer a translated version for it if you don't.
(forgive me if this posts twice)

Hehe, it DID arrive twice, but don't worry. My answer almost did, too. LJ acting up again -.-;.

Anyway, yes, the game is in German, but I never checked if it might be available in other languages. I'll do that later. They might have translated it themselves or maybe brought it to other countries etc. Frankly, I have no clue about the creator or the origins.

And yes, the story would only be written in English. I solely write in English, so no worried ^_^. I did study translations but I'm not very fond of writing in German ^.^;;.

*kicks LJ* Stupid thingie.

Mmm, will have to look into getting the game. I do know some German, but probably not enough to really get the enjoyment out of the game, seeing as I'd be attached to the dictionary most of the time. Do you know the title of the game? In German or whatever?

Anyway, looking forward to that story! It sounds quite intersting.
It's like a strange romantic love story. The river in love with the sea, or something.
Oddly reminds me of the story I started writing once, about a unicorn in love with a prince... but I digress.

*squeals!*

Looky! The game is originally English! I looked into the booklet and saw that the authors were English! So, the game's title is "Once Upon a Time" by Atlas Games. Designers: Richard Lambert; Andrew Rilstone; James Wallis. ^_____^ Now you can get it for yourself!

I also found a link where you can get it from, but I'm sure there are a lot of better sources, too.

And yeah, it is strangely romantic... especially since the river fell in love with the prince ^.^;;;;
