That's one of my favorite quotes, too, especially the last line. The image of the writer as encompassing all of humanity is just so wonderful.

To be honest I don't like Whitman very much. But this particular quote I do. I see it also as an absolution for people who are able to actually change their minds and / or have contradicting opinions.
