Ladies and Gentlemen, the defendant:

Exhibit A: He sings showtunes. LOL! Okay, now seriously.

Exhibit B: He has a duet with Rupert Everett, who is - as we all know - gay. The song is called They Can't Take That Away From Me (Track 12), which comes with lines such as:
The way your smile just beams
The way you sing off key
The way you haunt my dreams
No they can't take that away from me

We may never ever meet again, on that bumpy road to love
Still I'll always, always keep the memory of...

The way you hold your knife
The way we danced till three
The way you changed my life
No they can't take that away from me
No they can't take that away from me
The song, your Honor, was written by Ira Gershwin, btw, who's a known homosexual. That just as a side note. Generally, it can be said that this song is a bit strange to be sung between two males, don't you think?

Additional Exhibit B-2: (just came in thanks to a secret informer) Robbie William's own words about They Can't Take That Away From Me: "It's a great gay ballad."

Exhibit C: The song Me and my Shadow, track 14 on the CD. Performed together with Robbie's roomy and favorite rumored-to-be-lover, Jonathan Wilkes (see previous post). The whole song shows a certain level of familiarity, but what really makes one think is the anecdote in the booklet which goes along the lines of "You should hear them both perform it together under the shower".

Do I need to say more? Anyway...

Exhibit D: One line in the song Me and my Shadow: "We're as close as Ricky [Martin] to confessing he's gay." Uhm, yeah...

Exhibit E: Same song, comments thrown in near the end by "Rob" and "Johnny":

Johnny: "Can we do that again?"
Rob: "No, I'm too tired."
"Oh please, Rob!"
"No, I'm swung out!"
"Oh come on! I'll give you some money!"
"I don't need money."
"How about a cup of tea?"
"Not thirsty. Besides... I won't tell anybody you're gay!"
"Oh fuck off!" *burst of laughter*

Ladies and Gentlemen of the court, I rest my case.

Thank you.

I lost ICQ in the format and since I don't have a good virus program, I can't re-download.

To say it in Robbies own words: "It's a great gay ballad." Quote, unquote. 'nuff said! ;)

No idea. I read it on teletext months before the song was released. Typically Robbie, though! :)

I'm tempted to get this record, if only for the gay factor.

Silver, you're leading me astray into the path of no return: first admiting that HP may be interesting and now my wanting to buy a Robbie Williams cd for *me*....

*dies laughing* Now this is great! ^_^ I'm glad I can still be corruptive in my old days... hehehe

Really, get the album! it's great! Believe me, I'm not a Robbie Williams fan, have no other album, but this one rocks!

haha, i have it too. :)
Williams swings just great, and a great choice of songs. (of course i guess he grew up with it, with his father being a swing singer.)
Kidman and Wilkes are totally cool too.

I absolutely adore it. Just my type of music. I'm just sorry "My Way" isn't on it... *sniffs* Oh yes, Kidman is awesome. And so is Wilkes. I'm amazed. Especially since he sounds *different*. Usually, he sounds exactly like Williams... ?_?

yeah, i've always liked swing, the 50's, 60's, etc. too. (though, Sinatra per se not that much, so the 'Duets I' is the only Franky album i have.)
i'd never known Wilkes before, so...

oooh, such a nasty look on the lj tag. hehe.

Nasty? Moi?

Hehehe, that tag seemed appropriate for Wilkes sounding like Williams and them dropping "My Way". This one Image would have been better for "Weeeeeeeeeeh, swing!!" hehehe...

Yeah... I'm always torn between Frank or UnFrank. Part of me adores him endlessly, the other part hates him for being such a misogynist... *sighs* Duets rocks, yes... *_* Wai! I looooove the duet with Bono, man.

Do you know Michael Feinstein? He's my man. He used to be one of Gershwins's apprentices, and he's just awesome. But it's the kind of slow swing, you know? A man and a piano... oh yes... *happy sigh*

>>>"Weeeeeeeeeeh, swing!!"
LOL!!

>>>Yeah... I'm always torn between Frank or UnFrank.
hehe. from the Franky, Dean and Sammy trio i'd pick MacLaine. LOL! i really like her.

>>>Duets rocks, yes... *_* Wai! I looooove the duet with Bono, man.
ooooh suuuure. Bono's done real magic to that song. one of my faves from the cd. (i even have it playing now.)
but i like the Minelli duet a lot too, and a couple of more, of course. :)

>>>Do you know Michael Feinstein?
yep. ;)
i mean, i don't actually have any stuff by him, but i remember him quite well. yeeears ago there used to be a weekly session at the 'Larry King Live', introducing all the great american composers of that era, one by one. and Feinstein was the guest, playing and singing the songs live, and commenting on them and playing with the tunes, etc.
a very pleasant guy, i thought. and a great performer. of course he gives his "softer" touch to the pieces (as far as my memory goes), but i remember i liked him.

>>>But it's the kind of slow swing, you know?
>>>A man and a piano... oh yes... *happy sigh*
i see you... melting...

Aaaaaaiiii! I saw that Larry King show too!!! That's when I fell in love with him! *_* It was April 15th 1995! I'll never forget that day! Oh yes, he was lovely! The following day, I went off and bought his CDs! *dances around*

Yeah... softer touch alright, but that's part of what I love about him! ^_^

LOL yeah, true. But that's exactly what people tend to hate about him! T_T My Mikey... *hugs him* Stood in front of his bar in NY for an hour last Christmas and didn't dare to go inside... *sighs*

Hmmm... let's see... It's always kinda difficult, since it's really a matter of taste. But my all-time favorite of Michael Feinstein albums is "Isn't it Romantic". I listen to it all the time. It's got a collection of romantic songs ranging from bitter-sweet to really funny. "Nice Work If You Can Get It" is great, too, and definitely swings the most from his newest ones. "Pure Imagination" is sweet, too... it's a bunch of children's songs! Hahahah. But you might not enjoy that. Hmm... "Live at the Algonquin" is great, too. It's a recording of his concert, catches the mood perfectly of sitting at an exclusive hotel lounge and listening to Michael on the piano. Excellent choice of songs, but very plain, instrument-wise, since it's really only Mike and a piano. But I love it to bits. Ack, it's so difficult to decide! The MGM album is lovely, too, but there are some songs on it that are not the bestest, so it's not one you should pick up first. All the Songbook ones are lovely, but hard to get. Oh! The newest one, Romance on Film / Romance on Broadway! Lovely collection of classics! Very nice! *_*

Well... hope that helped at all! hahaha

Good choice, good choice... hehehe

My most beloved song is "Where do you start". It's so sad... and so beautiful...
