Ch-ch-changes!
Jun. 29th, 2001 11:30 amI never know what's worse. That people tell me I've changed so much, or when they tell me I'm exactly as I was 2 years ago! o_O
I remember this was one of the biggest shocks I ever had, I was 18 and met my childhood best friend at a theater. She looked so different, skinny with short, bleached hair. She saw me from afar and ran after me and when she caught me she said, "I recognized you at once, you still look the same!"
I was in shock. I mean, last time she saw me I was 13!!! And I still looked the same?!? I took a critical look into the mirror, looked at my long dark-blonde hair that really was still the same and I still wore the same kind of clothes. So I decided that it was time for a change.
Not much later after that, I cut my hair and colored it. And I've been changing my hairdo several times a year ever since. And I developed a style of my own! *_*
Shortly after that my old religious education teacher met my mother in the city and said to her, "I think you're daughter has a doppelganger! I saw a girl a few days ago who looked just like her, but her hair was short and it was orangr!" To which mother replied, "Yes, that's her." She later told me the stare of utter confusion with which she left the poor padre... hahahaha.
The best thing that happened to me then was when I went to class reunion last year and I was so scared of that. I came with my black leather jacket, cargo pants, a tight t-shirt, make-up and my usual hat. Oh, and my sunshades, too. I walked past a couple of former classmates and nobody recognized me! That was awesome. When I took off my sunshades they all were in awe. "Oh my GOD! You've changed a lot!"
I knew they were still remembering the insecure girly with long hair that resembled a mouse, that only wore jeans and wide pullovers. I had never dared to do anything at school that didn't conform with the picture they had of me. I didn't wear make-up, or nail polish or anything. I couldn't be myself, I couldn't be GAY!
Leaving school was the best thing I ever did.
