Guys, you gotta help me out here... I'm creating this new character. And right now my biggest damper is that I have no clue how to describe him! You see, I want him to have a beard. Now, when I say "He wore a brown beard" or "His manly jaws were covered by a brown beard" or whatever, people are going to think this:

NOT what I'm going for, obviously. Rather, what I have in mind is something more like this:

*rawr*

So, how do I describe this in a way that people will understand me?!? I'm completely stumped. Ideas would be most welcome.

To reiterate...

YES!
NO!
bueno!
malo!
oui!
non!
kawaii!
itai!

Okay, I'll stop now.

Ideas anyone?

Add more adjetives.

Like, "He has a dirty blond beard that was closely trimmed to his rugged jawline."

Or describe how he feels about his beard as a way of describing it -- "He always hated it when friends would describe him just as 'having a beard'. It always gave him mental pictures of being some Amish dude. He didn't have a beard, he had nicely trimmed and shaved facial hair to accent his masculine jaw and lips."

Oooooooh I like the first idea! *writes down* The second one is good, too, but he won't get a voice of his own so the reader won't know how HE feels about his beard. Unless it turns into some "You know, Bob" type of conversation... LOL.

Anyway, thanks a lot! And quite a fitting icon I must say! I know you're using it a lot lately, but right now it's just absurdly fitting! XD;

ROFL - I would describe it as 'close cropped - barely more than stubble'. This style looks like a very cropped version of a 'short boxed' beard, but I'm not sure that would actually mean anything to anyone.

Oooh I like! Thanks! And cool pics! Hahaha... finally I know what all those beard styles are called! D: Hm, yes, I agree on the short boxed beard but I too have my doubts whether anyone would know what the hell this means! XD

[snorts with laughter]

I'd call it a short beard, a close beard, a neat beard, neatly trimmed beard, something like that.

I would describe it as a "Close-trimmed beard," or "A contemporary chinstrap beard with accompanying goatee in the fashion a popstar might wear" or "with a beard kept close, the grown-up version of that thing your kid brother grew one summer," or "While certainly counting as a 'beard,' his close-cropped look was a total opposite of the ZZ Top," or "Something more than stubble, more mannish and intentional yet without fully hiding the flesh underneath," or "Facial hair carefully styled close to the skin, a suggestion of a beard," or even "Kept close to the degree that if you ran your fingers along his jawline you could feel both the fur and the man, the hair only long enough to be softer than stubble." I guess it's all in just what you want to express.

I'm not sure whether it's being male, having been with males, or simply never bothering with character descriptions these days that causes me to have so very many ways of putting this.

Cool! Thanks! Haha, the more suggestions I read the stupider I feel about not having been able to figure this out myself! *g*

Awesome! That sure was a wealth of description there! Makes me feel really uninspired and uncreative... LOL. Maybe it's true. I've never really bothered to think just how you could describe a beard. To me, a beard is a beard! LOL But then as you can see there are so many differences, it's insane.

Anyway, thanks a lot! ^^

Closely-trimmed, neat, sculpted, carefully groomed, light, topiaried ... anything you like.

Avoid the phrase "manly beard" at all costs.  It is redundant, since the phrase "womanly beard" is almost impossible, and as such suggests a man who has grown his beard to emphasize his manliness.  One who did so and failed would have a downy, patchy, sparse or failed beard.  One who has done so and succeeded is basically Paul Bunyan and probably eats pigs.  Whole.

A womanly beard isn't impossible per se, there are some women with beards; but few people consider it a feminine-enhancing attribute.

'topiaried' -- makes me think it's shaved and cut into strange animal shapes. :)

No ideas but I just spotted a cool animated Torchwood icon that you made. I'm wondering if you made anymore.
