My AIM is blinking oddly in my system tray O.o. Ive never seen this before. What the hell is it and what does it mean? O.o;;; I haven't updated the client in months, so why should this suddenly pop up? *mega-confused*
::headdesk:: they started something called aim mail. basically, it tells you you have mail in your aim mail account; basically, that mail is a mail from aim telling you that there now is such a thing as aim mail (or whatever it is), with the great part being that obviously you only get to that mail when you've signed up for a mail account. er. or something like that. I dunno whether it goes away if you just ignore it.
I dunno, I didn't have a clue what it was either, and somehow ended up signing up for the mail thingy, and then it was gone. I've been wondering whether they try to force you to sign up for it for putting an annoying blinky AIM thingy in there till you give in. Mabye you could just google it? There should be quite a few people with the blinky thingy and I'm sure there is a way to stop it other than signing up for a mail account.
I found a way to switch it off now. You can do that in the preferences. Then it just doesn't notify you. I figured if I sign up with a mail account I'm just going to keep getting the blinky crap, notifying me of spam they sent me -__________-. Annoying people.
Anyway thanks for telling me what this is at all! >.
Ah yes, I see. I found the respective tab. Annoyingly enough it tried to usher me through a sign-up procedure. We all know where this would have ended up -.-;. I would have gotten constant notifications of spam in a mail account I don't want / need. Anyway, I found the setting to just stop all notifications regarding their mail, so that should have taken care of it! x.x; Sooo annoying.
Hey Silver, no connection to this entry, but I've got a Sherlock Holmes question and I thought you might be just the person to ask:
I have this MP3 of a BBC production of The Blanched Soldier, but unfortunately, it breaks off before the end. Now, I was quite capable of reading the story online myself, but the BBC version also has some weird subplot involving Dr. Watson's honeymoon... They go to Paris, to the Alps and then to the Reichenbach Falls, where they meet someone with a French Accent who recognizes Watson, and the last thing we know is that the Frenchman gives his card to Watson and Watson is completely astonished. Do you know that version of the story and can you maybe fill me in what the subplot is all about?
Hallo! Sorry about the tardy reply, but I had to make inquiries first. I'm not familiar with that version myself, but I knew just the right person to ask! Here's this reply I got:
--------
The man that Watson and his wife meet happens to be a professional rival of Holmes' -- another detective. Which doesn't seem to justify Watson's reaction, but that's OK because that whole scene reveals that Watson is taking his new wife on a Holmes-centered tour of Europe on their HONEYMOON. Without telling her. Oh, Watson. There's an exchange at the end when they're all talking together:
Holmes: On pilgrimage, eh? (referring to the french detective) Jean (a little tightly): We all were, Mr. Holmes, though we didn't necessarily know it at the time.
The episode is really excellent, which is a nice as the original story is rather unexcellent, but Bert Coules took it and made two parallel stories (Watson's wedding and honeymoon, and the mystery surrounding the young man and his missing friend) which play off of and reflect each other quite beautifully, and tellingly. Here's a bit from the beginning of the episode:
Dodd: We were the sort of pals who...(long pause)... well, you can only be that when you share the same joys and sorrows, when you... when you're mates, really. Holmes: (under his breath): ...Yes. (normal voice): Ah, go on.
And from the last moments of the episode:
Holmes: I am compelled to admit, having taken the pen into my own hand, as never before, I am a great admirer of my Watson. Jean: So am I, Mr. Holmes.
--------
Man, I just need to get my hands on this one! Hehehe...
*big hug* Thank you, you just made my day. Internet is incredible, isn't it? You always find someone who knows something. Speaking of this, are there still open points in the amnesia-backstory?
Welcome! Glad I could help! ^^ Kinda feel lame now that I couldn't answer the question myself, but it's hard to keep up with all the versions of Sherlock Holmes floating around. *had Holmes fan*
Well most points about the amnesia / hypothermia thing are still open to be honest ^^;. I kinda decided to write around it for now. I'm still not clear about how the patient would wake up once the worst was gotten over, where and how he'd be hooked up, how he'd feel, whether he'd have any lasting effects etc. I'm just not clear with the entire ICU bit and find that very hard to envision. Since I'm working with flashbacks, kinda, I basically have the guy sitting around now and sorta recalling bits here and there, so I'm avoiding the actual issue, but I just can't make a proper image appear in my head :-/.
