The Christmas Song
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
Jack Frost nipping on your nose,
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir,
And folks dressed up like Eskimos.

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe,
Help to make the season bright.
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow,
Will find it hard to sleep tonight.

They know that Santa's on his way;
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh.
And every mother's child is going to spy,
To see if reindeer really know how to fly.

And so I'm offering this simple phrase,
To kids from one to ninety-two,
Although its been said many times, many ways,
A very Merry Christmas to you!

I actually had the version of Nat King Cole in mind, but Mel Torme rules, too! The song is beautiful in any version! ^^

Merry Christmas! :D

I just love the mood in this song... makes you want to cuddle up in front of a fireplace with a hot cup of tea and look out to the snow outside your window... ah...

I was actually obliquely referring to the fact that Mel Torme wrote the song. But it's all good. ;)

Thanks to your journal design, now I have Lou Reed in my ear. I don't suppose he wrote or sang any holiday tunes? <grin>

Hahaha, see? I didn't even know that. I keep forgetting that the US doesn't really have traditional Christmas songs, per se, but there's always some rather well-known person behind it one way or the other.

Yeah Lou Reed tends to stick, doesn't he. Well there's Christmas in February, but I'm not sure of that counts as a Christmas song... >.>;

Of course the US has traditional Christmas songs, we just borrow them from other traditions. :)

Two of my favorite Christmas songs are O Tannenbaum and Stilegen Nacht, which I sing in as bad a German accent as I write them. :)

A Christmas song isn't traditional when there's still copyright on it! D: Hehehe... of course, no offense to my dear American friends. As a folklorist I'm deeply ashamed for pouring out these blanket statements. They are merely teasing and not meant to be an accurate assessment of US history in any way (end of disclaimer).

Ahahaha, reminds me of that one song with Dean Martin I heard the other day. He was singing "Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer" and then when the part came up where Santa speaks he sang that, quite inexplicably!, in a Yiddish accent! I was like "WTF Jewish Santa?" hahaha

LOL! It's actually one of our Icelandic santas... I know it looks kinda dirty, but it's not supposed to be. It's meant for children! Right now artwork such as this one is plastered on our milk cartons.
