Political cartoons time again!
Jul. 8th, 2005 03:21 pmAs you guys know I like political cartoons and I read them regularily. Naturally the cartoonists are running havoc right now with London. And since most of the cartoonists featured on that site are American you can already guess what kinds of cartoons you're going to see. The US is so good at pathos. Surprisingly, some were really good, too. I've made a selection of cartoons that caught my interest. Some I found very funny, despite the nature of the affair. A lot of them I found really really annoying, dripping with Americanocentric pathos and patriotism. Some were very true... Feel free to disagree with my selection.

Date: 2005-07-08 01:42 pm (UTC)But I did like the last cartoon one you posted.
(I don't get this whole, "there there Britain, we understand...but we told you" kinda vibe i'm getting. Grrrrrrrr... Why can't we just mourn with them?)

Date: 2005-07-08 07:53 pm (UTC)I think England is going to keep on doing what they always did. This isn't the first time they've been the victim of terrorism, so it's not like it's a huge change in their lives. Plus, they know how to deal with it and refuse to bow to it. Most things haven't been canceled (such as the Formula 1 race this weekend) and everyday life was only halted for a moment. Security will increase again, that's for sure, they will be more careful and aware of risks again, but apart from that life will go on.
And don't worry about not commenting a lot, it's nice to hear from you when I do. ^_^

Date: 2005-07-08 02:50 pm (UTC)Yesterday was pretty scary for me, seeing as both my mom and my sister live in London. But luckily they're both okay.
Thanks for sharing these, they were fun/interesting to look at.

Date: 2005-07-08 07:22 pm (UTC)Completely random comment, though: I had no idea that Churchill said "Do your worst, we'll do our best." I thought I invented that one. >.>

Date: 2005-09-26 05:35 am (UTC)I am an American citizen, and I won't forget 9/11, but hell, I also take what happened to London and Madrid just as seriously. I hope those two countries handle the solutions a lot better than we did.
