This music meme thingy...
Apr. 1st, 2005 12:38 amBecause
seal7 commanded me and I must obey!
1) Total volume of music files on my computer:
1.80 GB on my computer directly because my disk is just too fucking small to keep them on call at all times, but around 3.5 GB on my external harddrive, rough estimate.
2) The last CD I bought was...
Oy let me think... ah yes, The Phantom of the Opera OST, Deluxe Edition!
3a) The last song I listened to before writing this was:
Uhm that would be... Martin Grech - Open Heart Zoo.
3b) Song playing right now:
>.>;;; none. *switches on playlist fast* 3 Three Doors Down - Kryptonite.
4) Five songs I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me are:
Goo Goo Dolls - Iris. The lyrics never fail to move me. I could probably quote the entire song, because every line seems to make perfect sense. I love singing it and somehow this has become Tom and my song, too.
Johnny Cash - Hurt. For one the lyrics just say exactly how I feel most of the time. Or used to... or maybe still do but don't act on it. Yeah. Of course I know that Trent Reznor is to be credited for those. But it's also Johnny Cash's interpretation that moves me. Johnny Cash is important to me. He's something that connects me with my dad and we both cried when he died.
Joshua Kadison - Delilah Blue. I could probably list all of Joshua's songs here. There are times when I don't listen to his songs for months. Then there are days were I listen to all the CDs constantly. I love his music, his piano, the way he sings... and I especially love his lyrics, so full of emotion and stories. They make me want to write novels about them and paint pictures of what I see. His songs give me wings and are a neverending source of creativity to me. This song especially is like that. It's so long and so sad, the story needs such careful listening and it's almost like an audiobook to me. It's magnificent.
ABBA - The Winner Takes It All. ABBA is special to me. They remind me of my childhood, they remind me of things I love. The music makes me happy. This song here makes me sad, because it's so true, what it feels like when love ends and life chances with it. I love how Agneta sings the song, so full of expression and sadness.
Europe - The Final Countdown. That's just a feel-good song! It never fails to cheer me up. *airguitars* It has no special meaning, it just lifts me up! That, and Hubba Hubba Zoot Zoot! XD
Disclaimer: That's not really a representative selection of my taste in music. It really strongly depends on what mood I'm in. I tend to listen to the same song on repeat for hours sometimes. I like silly songs, I like sad songs, I like songs about breaking up, I like classic music, swing, nu metal, indi rock, industrial... And especially I like lyrics of the songs. Some bands I always enjoy and listen to (usually when I'm driving) are Linkin Park, Rammstein, Bloodhound Gang, Papa Roach... yeah those are my car bands. I also listen to Robbie Williams a lot in the car and the Tarzan soundtrack... That's really when I get to listen to whole CDs the most. Other than that I usually just open up Winamp, toss in the 50 most recent songs I got and listen to those.
5) Which 5 people are you passing the baton to, and why?
irdamajere, because... I dunno. Just a hunch!
absolutelyvile, because I know she loves music and has a great taste.
eiluned, because listens to a lot of non-mainstream music.
no_ron, because he might actually answer this.

Okay, here goes:
kribban, didn't pick her initially because I don't think she'll be doing it, but I gotta pick someone, eh?

[This is next to impossible to answer. I'm going to go with 5 most meaningful, whether or not I listen to them often. Plus, I'm doing 6, so ha. Wanted to do 10.]
Museum of Idiots by They Might Be Giants
Chop me up into pieces if it pleases, if it pleases.
And when the chopping is through, every piece will say, "I love you."
Every piece of me will say "I love you."
Here in the Museum of Idiots.
Rubber Ring by The Smiths
But don’t forget the songs
That made you cry
And the songs that saved your life
Yes, you’re older now
And you’re a clever swine
But they were the only ones who ever stood by you
Roses in the Hospital by Manic Street Preachers
Roses in the hospital
Stub cigarettes out on my arm
Roses in the hospital
Want to feel something of value
Roses in the hospital
Nothing really makes me happy
Roses in the hospital
Heroin is just too trendy
All we wanted was a home
Now we are so strung out we wanna own
Like a leaf in the autumn breeze
Like a flood in January
We don't want your fucking love
The Beer by Kimya Dawson
i guess by now you all know my friends danny broke his neck
he was driving home from sirens when he got into a wreck
first i cried for him and then i cried for me
haunted by the ghost of the girl i used to be
but the rocks with holes are warm in my hands
and i buried my toes in the hot hot sand
and the silver pink pony kisses me and says
you've come a long, long way and you deserve to be really happy
I Held Her In My Arms by The Violent Femmes
I will not kill
The one thing that I love
In this world of wreckage
I look above
Help me lord
Help me understand
What it means to be a boy
What it means to be a man
And I can't even remember
If we were lovers
Or if we just wanted to
But I held her in my arms
I held her in my arms
I held her in my arms but she wasn't you
God by John Lennon
God is a Concept by which
we measure our pain
I'll say it again
God is a Concept by which
we measure our pain
I don't believe in magic
I don't believe in I-ching
I don't believe in Bible
I don't believe in Tarot
I don't believe in Hitler
I don't believe in Jesus
I don't believe in Kennedy
I don't believe in Buddha
I don't believe in Mantra
I don't believe in Gita
I don't believe in Yoga
I don't believe in Kings
I don't believe in Elvis
I don't believe in Zimmerman
I don't believe in Beatles
I just believe in me...and that reality
The dream is over
What can I say?
the Dream is Over
Yesterday
I was the Dreamweaver
But now I'm reborn
I was the Walrus
But now I'm John
and so dear friends
you'll just have to carry on
The Dream is over
