Went to a Sam's Club of sorts store today and bought mucho nice things. Well, parents did, but it's gonna be yummy. We're having a party this weekend (parents' combined b-day party), so there will be lots of nice food stuffs. Bro and I also got some fried feta cheese and I bought some ready-made feta pita. I had one of them for dinner and it was uber-yummy. Mmmmmmmh. I also got a package of snackable surimi o.o. And some Kitkats. Collecting bonus points, yesiree. And dad bought a shitload of candy stuffs. Yummy... And the by far coolest thing was that I found a codefree DVD player for as little as 50$! I battled my guilt a bit and then went ahead and bought it! Finally I can watch my Clerks DVD again! *huggles it* And The Talented Mr. Ripley and all those region 1 DVDs I had! ;_; I'm so happy...

Meesah ish pleased...

'The Mysterious Yearning Secretive Sad Lonely Troubled Confused Loving Musical Gifted Intelligent Beautiful Tender Sensitive Haunted Passionate Talented Mr. Ripley'? that's a hell of a title.. :)
and a damn good movie!

^_^! Hello, Mr. Nightowl! *g*

And yes, it's a huge title and every single adjective fits perfectly. I love this movie to bits. Did you read the book? It's amazing... I mean, it's a bit different from the movie. Quite a bit actually. I like the end of the movie better and I liked the whole Peter bit, which is why I adore the movie as it is. But the book is so amazing because it provides such fascinating background. A glance into the head the man that is Tom Ripley. Absolutely worth reading, in case you haven't yet.

i seriously considered reading it, only then i had a loooong period when i simply couldn't force myself to read anything.

but then krss sent me the Potter books and i started to read that (more out of curiosity than anything) and in end effect i got kinda rekindled, so now, on an' off, i'm into reading worthwhile stuff againg, so chance is i'll get the book.

btw, i discovered i absolutely loooove reading from the screen of my notebook. more than paper. is that normal? O_o :)) the Potter "volumes" and now i got myself all six volumes of 'Dune' from the net (one of my favorites) etc., so there's much to do.. *_*

[LOL! What a pleasant surprise to see you use these smilies! ^_^]

I know how that is. I often can't bring myself to read at all. And yes, good books often kick that off again! Woohoo!

Oy, didn't I offer you already months ago to let you download the texts? Tsktsktsk!

Duuuuune! I must admit, I've only seen the movie *ducks*. And that freaked me out big time! O.o Oh and I once got all those names on Wordshark which made me lose! XD

And yes, I think it's perfectly normal to prefer reading on the computer screen. I mean, some people hate it and can't do it at all, but I find myself being able to read a lot more that way. I can also read faster. Somehow it's easier to skim and scan that way... *shrugs*

[hehe. :) but i do use the O_o often..]

you offered the Potter books? you sure? O_o i mean, you may be right but i really can't remember. i got the ones from krss in march and since then i managed all 5 books. :) yeah, i guess one does read faster from a computer screen. :)

you mean Lynch's Dune with MacLachlachlachlan? well i saw that only once a veeeery long time ago and as i remember, it is one disgusting piece of shit and a huge injustice to the novel. i remember that at the time i thought - what an utterly stupid sci-fi. (i absolutely hate Lynch, btw, guess it shows, eh? hehe.. )
but there's a very cool Hallmark 3-episode miniseries made in 2000 (and then one of the sequels in 2003) which is i think as close as one can get to the novel (though the cast is a bit different as you'd imagine from the book, i mean, Paul's supposed to be 15yo!), but it still is nothing on a par.
the novel is an unbelievable prose with an insanely detailed world. one of the best part is that you read not only dialogue but what the characters parallel think as well. and you always have to check words and terms with a little terminology dictionary at the end of the book. :) well, it's not an altogether easy read.. but i love it! just say if you want to try..

OK first off: you found a region free DVD player for 50 bucks????
What's the catch???? No warranty? will it fall to pieces next week? what?

fried feta? That's odd! the pita sounds nice. And what are you doing eating fish? you're a veggie! AND DOES YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY HAVE BIRTHDAYS IN THE SAME WEEK?????? Mmm food!

[identity profile] silversolitaire.livejournal.com 2003-07-31 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know if there's a catch! LOL! I was amazed myself, so I snatched it. There was only one left, so I didn't give myself a lot of time to decide. Also, everytime my dad left the cart somewhere I said "If someone steals the player off the cart I'm gonna be mad!" So far I can't see a catch. It looks very pwetty and it's a renowned company, too, not some noname junk. *shrugs* I'm just gonna count my blessings. It has a karaoke function too! XD Bro and I amused ourselves yesterday watching movies and then putting the pitch up and down. I guess it's for when you're singing and it's too high or too low for you. But to us it was endlessly amusing to see Ewan McGregor talk like Mickey Mouse all of a sudden XD. You can also select "moods". First I was wondering what the frigging deal was, since why would I want a movie to sound as if it was being played in a cathedral! But then we figured that it was probably for the karaoke stuff, too. Oh, and it can bookmark stuff too! Haven't tested it yet, but it looks nifty.

Warranty is two years, so that looks okay, too o.o. And it's very sturdily made, unlike the one I had before. I had a Yamakawa DVD Player before which was also promised to be codefree but then it turned out that you had to *downgrade* the firmware first to be able to switch it off and it didn't work every time and it just was very annoying. Not to mention the fact that it just died one day for no obvious reason. And I paid 150€ or so then. It was really crappily made, because it really was just a computer drive put into a player shell. Geeze... well this one's nice though.

Dried feta is very yummy. You know, like when you fry camembert with a bready crust? Same thing, only different cheese. And I do eat certain kinds of fish. My vegetarianism is mainly based on aestheticism, meaning normal meat simply disgusts me. I hate the texture and the sounds it makes when I bite it. Not to mention all the sinews and veins and EW! I can eat fish when it's soft and I don't see any of the above mentioned stuff. And Surimi is so nice and soft and clean that it's okay, even though I can only have very little before it starts grossing me out.

And yes, we all have our birthdays within two weeks >_<. Doesn't that sucks? First it's my dad on July 25th, then it's my on the 28th, then a bit later it's mom on August 8th. If you want to count Sabby, he comes in at the 1st, too. And then Tom's is on December 21st and my bro's is on the 24th!!! Poor me!!!

PS. TMR is what brought us together in the first place so I thank God I saw that movie. *snugs* Unfortunately they turned him straight and into John Malkovich. *growls* I shall so NOT see Ripley´s Game.

[identity profile] silversolitaire.livejournal.com 2003-07-31 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! Bless TMR! *kiss*

And I read that about Ripley's Game already years ago when they were planning it and it made me SO angry. I mean, truth be told, in the books he does have things with women, too, he even gets married, but it's clear that his main interest lies in boys. *mutters*
