Jun. 28th, 2003 07:08 pmFinished reading OotP and strangely enough I don't care at all. Didn't move me one bit. At all. It was a waste of paper, IMO. I almost missed it. How odd.
Edit:
Maybe I should clarify: I liked the book very much. I liked it better then #4. It had its strengths and its weaknesses. However, The Thing somehow totally lost all impact on me. I still wonder why.

Date: 2003-06-28 05:55 pm (UTC)I blame it on the long wait and on fanfiction... there were so many theories around before, so much speculation, so many questions and now we only got some few answers and most of them were pretty much what was expected... Harry has to take part in Voldemorts downfall -no, really?!
Additionally, I'm waiting for the next chapter of Quoth the Raven's "Giving Notice" just as desperately as I waited for OotP.

Date: 2003-06-29 03:43 am (UTC)When character anonymus died I felt like 'hey, why aren't there tears rolling over my cheecks?' o_O
And the 'big secret' Dumbledore was suposed to tell? pfff.. was there anything we didn't know yet?
Considered it VERY funny though, many times I was laughing out loud when one of the teachers sabotaged Umbridge once more, McGonagalls replies - hilarious at times :)

Date: 2003-06-29 04:30 am (UTC)Yeah, that big prophecy thing and I was all like... okay? And the point it? *rolls eyes* Luna totally cracked me up. I liked her as a character a lot and when she brought out that lion head! XD! Oh my God, I laughed so hard. It was definitely a wonderful book. No question about that. But I did fall into the occasional plothole, I must admit o.o. And some things were kinda oddly written and the entire ending was just totally rushed. XY dies and then there's a bit of half-hearted mourning, but it didn't really touch me, because I almost missed the event to begin with and I still kept thinking "No... it couldn't have been THAT lame!" and then the book is over!... and no second war has broken out? I'm still wondering if I'm missing a couple of pages... And Dumbledore... I dunno. It touched me to see that he did care and that Harry is important and all, but at some point it just started to get pathetic... *sighs*
And I still want to whack Umbridge over the head. And is it just me or did they say she never uttered a word ever since she got back from the centaurs and then she's spoken to at the Infirmary and immediately answers and nobody takes special notice? o.o? Or maybe I got something wrong, I was still too damn confused and the book already has been taken from my by the next person in line *glares at Dad*. And not to mention the whole Thestral thing.
Oooh I saw the FUNNIEST thing yesterday! XD! After finishing the book I finally looked at all the comments and posts to MLs and all and there was someone who had posted one day before the publishing that she had gotten the book already, boasting around and all "Hey, I know it's illegal but I don't care, neener neener neener!" And then she posted a review of... something. It totally wasn't HP. XD!!! And everybody was pointing and laughing because she obviously had downloaded some fake thing from the internet where Lily turns out to be a Deatheater and Sirius gets caught and Draco is an animagus and Snape is a spy for Voldemort after all but saves Harry regardless and in the end Dudley is a wizard too! XD!!!!!!!

the best parts in the book (imo) was when Umbridge got teased and taunted by the teachers and Fred & George, but she didn't get what she deserved in the end, her character got a pathetic exit imo. So plotwise, lot of wholes yeah, the one thing I DID find strong was Harry's characterdevelopment, rock solid if you ask me.
Harry bugged me, irritated me at times, but all in all.. it was Harry and it made his character more real than ever. more an adolescent than ever.
Luna was very cool, a bit like moaning myrthle was cool, oh and "weasley is our king" *chuckles*
cracked me up as well. It's exactly in the lighter areas, the daily life at Hogwarts, the peculiar characters, the rich imagination, that Rowling manages to really capture the audience. storywise there just isn't any REAL meat to it.
My favourite HP still is n°3; hence I'm really looking forward to the movie and I really hope Cuaron (who is a bit of an edgier director) will take off the sweetness that the other two movies had (and needed).
Azkaban was alot darker and I think it's a great thing it has another director.
How did you see their characters while reading? I couldn't help but seeing them all as the actors of the movie, all in all that's not a bad thing, but I had a hard time imagining Daniel Radcliff as the 15 year old Harry of OOTP. same with Ron and Hermione really. i was totally imagining ron as he was in philosopher's stone, so I constantly had to prod myself into reimaging a certain scene I was reading this time with an aged ron.
gah.. i probably don't read enough ;-)
