I want to paint again. With *real* paint. Paint that can be touched and moved around and smelled... that makes a total mess out of me. I bought canvas yesterday and a palette knife and a 2-inches smoothing brush. But guess what, I forgot my acrylic paint at my flat >_<. I only have oil paint here, and I don't really feel like using oil today. It's always such a goddamn mess. Plus, I'm all out of thinner. Oh well... guess it'll have to wait till next week then...

It's funny... it always adds up to the same. When you really want to paint properly, I need to spend around $750 with canvas, enough colors, brushes etc. (assuming you're starting at square one). When you want to paint on the computer, it's just as expensive, possibly more. We'll just assume you already have a computer. Then you still need to buy a good painting program, like Photoshop or Painter (assuming we want to be totally legal...) and a Wacom tablet. That easily adds up a thousand bucks. So, it's always expensive, no matter what.

Look at the average painting. Standard-sized canvas, around $30 or $40. Paints, satisfying set, $50. You're using up a lot if you use the knife. Liquid white and thinner, another $10 to $20. So you've spent already about $100 just for the material. Now counting the hours of work you put into a painting, no wonder they're always so expensive! Even if you don't have a big name that sells.

Meow... No wonder most artists are poor...
