And thus ends a long and annoying saga...
Jun. 8th, 2007 11:06 pmdoes that mean I can stop posting about this now? I'm kinda compelled to collect the complete set of news since I started that. I don't even like GA all that much, dammit! LOL... But this is just so soap opera-ish. Better than fiction!
Seriously, what kind of message are they giving? This is bad. This is basically saying that all the efforts he took don't count for shit. Sure, they want to make it aaaaaall right and make sure everyone knows they're totally against homophobia. Good for them! But making such a big deal out of nothing really isn't the right away to go! Now the fans who don't care about gay issues but are fans of Washington and GA will be pissed off and probably start leaning towards anti-gay now as this seems to be the root of all evil. Those who care about gay issues just shake their heads and go "wtf mate?". Morons.
Washington "Mad as Hell" Over 'Grey's Anatomy' Firing
Isaiah Washington is "mad as hell" after learning he was fired from hit U.S. medical drama Grey's Anatomy. The troubled actor's future on the show has been in doubt ever since he made a homophobic remark about castmate T.R. Knight last October - a comment he repeated at the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year. And at the end of season three his character, Dr. Preston Burke, was seen packing his bags on the cliffhanger finale. Washington's spokesperson Howard Bragman confirmed his client had received a call from the show's creator Shonda Rimes informing the actor that he was "not invited back to the show next season", and the 43-year-old star today released a statement addressing the situation. In the statement, he simply says, "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore."[source]

Date: 2007-06-09 07:22 am (UTC)Then, months later, in a Golden Globes behind the scenes thing, Washington suddenly and randomly leaned into the camera and said "I never said faggot!", or something. That then started the entire avalanche. First Heigl said that Washington just needs to STFU, then Knight came out as gay and admitted that he was the cast member insulted and Washington totally did say faggot, then Washington apologized and met with members of gay associations and went to "gay camp" to deal with his homophobia blablabla.
So yeah, it really makes me go... WTF DUDE?!? I really think they're blowing this out of proportion. I can only imagine that there's more to it. I mean, the entire fisticuffs thing and all... maybe Washington just is very difficult to get along with and they felt like this was the perfect opportunity to get rid of him? *shrugs*
Of course the movie industry is accutely aware of the meaning of the word "faggot". In the 80s it was all over the place, in a very derogatory way, and slowly the GLAAD and others managed to put it into people's heads that it's not okay to refer to gay people as "faggots", but come on... you really can overdo it!
