I've always hated PETA, because they're militant, zealous and noisy and they give every vegetarian and animal lover in the world a bad name with their shocking campaigns. When people sneer at you for not eating meat it's because they have people like PETA activists in mind to compare you to. PETA is even worse than Greenpeace!##

However, so far I've only thought they were a little (okay very much!) too harsh about their cause and other than that you can dismiss them as weirdoes. So they're against drinking milk, wearing wool and seeing-eye dogs. Whatever. But now I have to read this:

PETA Employees Face 31 Felony Animal-Cruelty Charges for Killing, Dumping Dogs

Center For Consumer Freedom Has Warned “Ethical Treatment Of Animals” Workers Routinely Kill Animals...

http://www.consumerfreedom.com/pressRelease_detail.cfm/release/109

And when you read this in addition, PETA suddenly looks a whole lot different, doesn't it?

Seriously, anyone giving them as much as a cent to support their malinformed causes must be insane. *joins WWF*

I know PETA are militant bastards, but PETAkillsanimals.com fails to get my approval for one simple reason: I have worked with the type of animal rescue/etc groups PETA sponsors and only about 20% of the animals they have are adopted out in the end. This can be because of anything from incureable or too far progressed illnesses the animal had prior to being brought in to rescue, thus making it more humane to put them down than leave them alive, or because of temprament problems. Often the animals are abused or neglected and require specific types of attention that are difficult to find in owners. More often than not, in addition to that, there are a lot of animals we saw at the shelter who were into old age when we got them. In the end they were fostered/etc for up to four, sometimes even six or more years and never adopted out and put down because of old age problems.

So, until they prove PETA's not just putting down animals who need to be put down I'll just hate them for taking a good concept to the extreme.
