Domain-insane...

Ooooookay, I found a supercheap solution to register my own domain, for as little as $25 a year, including 250 subdomains and email-forwarder, 5 POP3-accounts and unlimited bandwidth. That's very positive indeed! ^_^

Now all I need it a good idea for a name... I was thinking about something with Silver (only that all silver-thingies are taken already, grrrr), but that would limit me in my mobility. I should take some meaningful name, that is nice and cool and not taken yet ^_^. If I could only come up wtih an idea...

It's actually the *hosting* of the domain that costs ...

... and big time if you want a host that is stable and isn't down all the time. There are some cheap ones, but they basically take your money and leave you with a a apge you can't update, crashes or is down half the time.

Man, I'm so proud of myself :) I've actually *learnt* something these past few days!

A great site for finding which domains are still available is: http://www.nameboy.com/index.php?SESSION=53f061189b657c3adbe136e3a7acb799

However, if you steal one of the domains I am thinking about, I will make sushi out of you :) the list of damain names to avoid are on my livejournal somewhere.

*grin*

Good luck! And don't forget www.frefly.nu (or any other cool sounding domain name we can come up with!) is always open to you :)

Yeah, thing is...

No offense, but firefly doesn't do anything for me, namewise. I want a name that sorta speaks to me. And if I just want a subdomain, I can go to slashcity as well. There I'm on a slash friendly server, I think it's reliable, and I'd get a subdomain, too. Having a domain of my own isn't really my priority. I just want a place to stay and I need lots a webspace since I like to have galleries and crap.

So, did I get you right? You're actually thinking aboutn buying webspace of your own and then hosting sites there, yes?

You know, something that always makes me think is that many, almost all, webhost require you to stay adult-contentless. And that's what slash is. In other words, when they get you, and they might, they can not only kick you off, they might also make you pay a sum that you agreed on in the TOS when registering. I've seen that a couple of times now and that makes me suspicious. That's why I want to be on a slashfriendly server.
